BAUCUS, TESTER SECURE ICBM FUNDING IN AIR FORCE BUDGET

At Senators’ Urging, Budget Maintains Full Funding for Malmstrom ICBM Force, Jobs

 

(Washington, D.C.) – Montana’s U.S. Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester announced that the Air Force Budget, released by the White House today, maintains full funding for all 450 ICBMs, including the 150 housed at Montana’s Malmstrom Air Force base.  Today’s news comes after Baucus and Tester repeatedly contacted top officials at the White House and the Defense Department to make the case for maintaining a strong ICBM force despite necessary budget cuts.

 

“We know that maintaining a strong ICBM force is a necessary contribution to our national security and a wise investment in Great Falls jobs.  So, we made our case over and over again, up and down the chain of command, and it paid off in today’s budget,” Baucus said.  “Now, we’ve got to keep fighting to make sure the Air Force’s funding request is approved by Congress without delay.”

 

“Malmstrom’s ICBMs strengthen our national security in a cost-effective manner.  The base is a critically important part of Great Falls’ economy and I am proud to fight for it,” Tester said.  “We worked hard to make sure this administration understands the national security importance of Malmstrom and listened to our calls to keep its mission strong.”

 

As members of the Senate’s ICBM  coalition, Baucus and Tester will continue fighting to ensure ICBM funding is maintained throughout the budget process.

Rehberg Statement on President’s Budget: “Montanans deserve better”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Montana’s Congressman, Denny Rehberg, today responded to the President’s budget 2013 which, despite raising taxes by $1.5 trillion incurs a $901 billion deficit for 2013.  The budget is full of payoffs for political allies and gimmicks to make smoke and mirrors look like real cuts. “A budget is a starting point, and we’ve sure got a ways to go on this one.  I appreciate that the President has offered a budget, something the Senate hasn’t done for more than three years.  That being said, the President isn’t being straight with the American people, and I think Montanans deserve better.  Accounting tricks and budget gimmicks aren’t going to solve our problems and put people to work.  Let’s stop giving special deals to special interests and start working together to make government work more effectively and efficiently for everyone.  We need an honest, fair, long-term budget that meets the challenges we face today so our kids don’t have even bigger challenges tomorrow.  That will require a realization that we’ve simply got more government than we need or can afford.  We can do better by setting priorities and making sure Washington doesn’t balance the budget on the backs of hardworking rural taxpayers.  This is America.  Working together we can get this right.” # # #

Tester, Vitter to join with CEOs in push for Flood Insurance Reauthorization

Senators will be joined by CEOs from National Wildlife Federation, American Insurance Association,

National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, Reinsurance Association of America, Taxpayers for Common Sense, American Rivers, Heartland Institute  

 

(U.S. SENATE) – Senators Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and David Vitter (R-La.) are joining forces in the push to reauthorize the bipartisan National Flood Insurance program.  Tester and Vitter will hold a press conference on Tuesday, February 14^th at 10:30 a.m. in Room 208 in the Senate Visitors Center.

 

Tester and Vitter will be joined by Larry Schweiger, President and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation; Leigh Ann Pusey, President and CEO of the American Insurance Association;  Charles M. Chamness, President and CEO of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies; Frank Nutter, President of the Reinsurance Association of America; Ryan Alexander, President of Taxpayers for Common Sense; Wm. Robert Irvin, President of American Rivers; and  Joseph Bast, President and CEO of The Heartland Institute.

 

The national organizations are members of the Smarter Safer Coalition, an organization dedicated to supporting environmentally responsible, fiscally sound approaches to natural catastrophe policy that promotes public safety.

 

The Smarter Safer Coalition is joining with Tester and Vitter in pushing for a long-term reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program.  Long-term reauthorization and reform of this program will provide homeowners with certainty while protecting taxpayers.
